Zero hours contracts, minimum pay jobs, in a country full of frightened workers who know that no job leads to slow starvation of body and mind. In this land of no jobs the visibly ill are told they are fit for work and when they are clearly mentally or physically unable to do so they can be struck from their only means of subsistence and have to rely on "charity". Is this Glasgow today or Britain a hundred years ago?
Robert Tressell's Ragged Trousered Philanthropists book should never have seen the light of day, his insight into the exploitation his characters endured and how lives were lived then could have been lost to us. Our reason to run this serial is to help perpetuate the book and its message and to lend our support to this fantastic collaborative effort created by the goodwill and talent of our great city. We are set up here at Sunny G to offer a safe supportive and creative environment mixing with other like minded individuals from the most diverse backgrounds to provide a broadcast mix of local music and information relevant to our communities. We say we are Your Station, Your Creation but we need you to make it happen, Thanks to Martin Chomsky and numerous others we have created a work of relevance and inspiration, and we look forward to the discussion programme on Wednesday evening where local people will mix with union members academics and others to discuss how we best challenge our political representatives, as we say we will play Status Quo but we do not accept it, things must change and we want to help our community be part of making it happen. The serialisation runs from Sunday 25th until Friday 30th at 8pm with a two hour debate on Wednesday 28th from 7-9pm on the Social Awareness programme with John Beattie and guests.
